Government, media hold disaster awareness forum Print

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Zamboanga Press Club Incorporated (ZCPI) have conducted a disaster prevention and mitigation information awareness forum for media practitioners last Friday at a local hotel.

The activity was conducted to educate media people who will in turn provide information to the public on disaster prevention and mitigation.

The activity was participated by different media practitioners coming from print, radio, and television.

During the activity, the media people were briefed on earthquake and tsunami, geological hazards, hydrometeorological hazards, and Automated Water Level and Rain Monitoring using Near Real Time Observation.

It also came out during the activity that the region is vulnerable to earthquakes, tsunamis, weather disturbances, flooding, and landslide occurrences.

Speakers include Engr. Allan Rommel Labayog of the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology Institute, Chief Geologist- Mines and Geosciences Bureau- 9 Jessica Lucero, OIC PAGASA Zamboanga Ver Lance Galanida, and Julimer Ann Aying of ADZU Geo Safe.

B/Gen. Leoncio Cirunay Jr. and Zamboanga Press Club President Teofilo Garcia Jr., graced the occasion. (RGAAGo)
