Police are investigating allegations that a truck filled with sacks of reported smuggled rice had just left the Westen Mindanao Command when it was apprehended by authorities last Saturday.

The report said that Sinunuc Police personnel led by Chief Insp. Ramon Bautista were conducting roving patrol in Upper Calarian shortly before 10 p.m. when they spotted a Canter Fusu truck loaded with sacks of rice near the Western MIndanao Command main gate.

The police patrol car tailed the truck and ordered the driver to stop when they reached the vicinity of Campaner and Veterans Avenue.

During a conversation with the truck driver, they found out that the vehicle was transporting 125 of 50-kilogram sacks of rice.

The truck driver told police that 120 sacks came from the Western Mindanao Command.

The driver identified as 29-year-old Michael Napolereyes y Carpio also failed to present papers to legalize the transportation of the rice.

The cargo reportedly belongs to Salam Jibil Addan of Barangay Mampang.

The truck and its cargo were taken to the Sinunuc Police Station pending the turnover to the Bureau of Customs (BoC.

Police are still investigating the incident. (Dan Toribio)
