The Zamboanga Sangguniang Panlungsod during its regular session yesterday has approved the purchase of a military-type drone to  be used in emergency response and traffic management.

The suggestion of purchasing the drone came from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, said that the drone to be purchased is bigger, technologically advanced and can fly for one to two hours.

Apolinario said that they want the supply of the equipment to be bidded as early as possible.

He said the city will need the drone for disaster risk reduction management and public safety.

Aside from these, Apolinario said, this drone can also be used for traffic management.

During its regular session, the City Council approved an initial appropriation of P500,000 for the drone.

This only represents initial funding as the cost of the drone the city intends to purchase is at P1 million.

Because of this, Councilor Benjamin Guingona IV passed a resolution requesting the CDRRMO to look for additional funding for the military type drone. (RGAAGo)
