The City Council, during its advanced session last Monday, approved in third and final reading the Supplemental Budget (SB) No. 2 for this year in the amount of more than P182 Million.

The bulk of the approved budget will be used for the purchase of 4-wheel vehicles (pick-up type) intended for the 90 mainland communities while the Island barangays will have their respective pumpboats to be used for emergency purposes, according to Councilor Benjamin Guingona III, chairman of the Council’s Committee on Appropriation.

Since it will cost the city government more than P100 million for the purchase of the 4-wheel vehicles, Guingona said, another appropriation will be made in next year’s regular budget to complete the financial requirement for the purchase of the vehicles which has been estimated at P1 million each.

The present budget for the purpose can only serve at least 70 barangays and funds for the remaining villages will be included in next year’s budget, Guingona added.
In addition, Guingona enumerated some of the salient items in SB No.2 like the appropriation of some P40 million for the completion of Barangay Limaong bridge.

The construction of Limaong bridge is a joint project of the national government, thru DPWH, and that of the city government, Guingona said. The project cost is being estimated to P140 million.

Of the total amount, P80 million has already been appropriated by the city government and the national government will give its counterpart to start the construction of the bridge.

Limaong residents have been suffering from very poor road network and dilapidated footbridge for almost 35 years already.

In the said SB No.2, the City Health Office will have also its share amounting to P5 million for the purchase of the needed medical equipment, P1.4 million for the purchase of one ambulance, P2.1 million for the acquisition of mono-block tables and chairs for the 180 day-care centers of the city. — Jimmy Villaflores
