The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-9) is set to award six centenarians in the region with P100,000 in line with a government program to honor the country’s seniors.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD-9 Information Officer, said that three of the six are from Zamboanga City, two are from Isabela City and one is from Zamboanga Sibugay.

The recipients are from 101 to 102 years old.

Salvador said that DSWD personnel will visit the centenarians in their homes to personally hand over the cash gift and a letter of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte since most of the recipients are too old to visit the office.

"We in the DSWD wanted to really provide immediately the benefits intended for them so that they can use it for whatever needs," Salvador said.

This is being done by the government to honor Filipinos who have reached the age of 100 whether residing in the Philippines or abroad.

Recipients in Zamboanga City are female, two of who are alive.  DSWD personnel will give the cash award posthumously to the recipient who passed away.

For 2018, the DSWD registered a total of 25 centenarians for payout. They already conducted the first payout during the first quarter of the year. (RGAAGo)
