A man was killed while a policeman was injured by a lone assailant during twin gun attacks in Ipil Municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday morning.

The fatality was identified as Loremar Potestad Dumantay aka Jojo, 38 years old, married, and a resident of Purok MaƱalac, Barangay Don Andres, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province.

Investigation showed that Dumantay had just taken his children to school on board his motorcycle when the incident happened.

On his way back, an unidentified man flagged down the motorcycle and shot Dumantay three times which killed him on the spot.

The suspect then escaped towards the Ipil Heights Barangay Hall where he encountered SPO1 Arvin T. Cabigon who was on his way to work but responded upon learning about the shooting incident.

Cabigon was pursuing the suspect when the latter fired and hit him on the waist.

Cabigon returned fire but the suspect was able to escape on board a tricycle.

Reports said that the suspect later transferred to another motorcycle which sped off towards an unknown direction.

SPO1 Cabigon was treated at a local hospital.

Police conducted pursuit operations and are investigating the incident to determine the motive behind the shooting. (Ely Dumaboc)
