Lamitan City officials honored the soldiers in yesterday’s observance of the 120th Philippine Independence Day at the Lamitan city hall.

The program was spearheaded by Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay and 3rd Scout Ranger Batallion Commander Col. Montano Almodovar.

The two officials honored the veterans who fought during World War 2.

Retired Air Force Colonel Roberto Ventus said that the ceremony honors the heroism and gallantry of Filipino soldiers and reminds everyone how Philippine independence was obtained through the sacrifices of the soldiers.

Officials also honored the modern day heroes who fought in Marawi City to liberate Marawi City from the Maute terrorists.

Certificates of recognition and financial assistance were provided by the Lamitan local government to spouses of the Lamitan soldiers who fought in Marawi.

In his speech, Colonel Almodovar also thanked the Lamitan local govenrment for the recognition given to their battalion.

Almodovar said that this recognition will further inspire his men to work more effectively in securing Lamitan City.

Meanwhile, Isabela City Mayor Al Qaid Akbar led the city in celebrating Independence Day in Isabela City.

Akbar, together with representatives from government offices and civic organizations held a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal located in the provincial plaza.  (Richard Falcatan)
