A detainee of Police Station 8 was able to escape from police after a court hearing at the Hall of Justice last Thursday.

Police identified the escapee as Saidi Aming Taup, married and a resident of Purok 3, Sinunuc.

Initial investigation showed that Taup and another detainee were being escorted by two policemen identified as PO2 Mohammar Dammang and PO2 Aldren Ahamad when the incident happened.

The group was on board a Seattle Mahindra heading towards the police station coming from the Hall of Justice at around 5:45 p.m. when a handcuffed Taup suddenly jumped from the police vehicle.

The detainee ran towards a nearby coastal community where he successfully eluded the pursuing policemen.

Police have launched manhunt operations for the capture of the suspect.

Taup, however, remains at large as of presstime.  (Dan Toribio)
