The City Administrator’s Office in close coordination with the Zamboanga City Police office (ZCPO), has initiated measures to further strengthen security at the main public market to forestall criminal incidents and other forms of lawlessness.

City Administrator Apple Go met with City Police OIC Director PSSupt. Alan Nazarro Friday afternoon to discuss measures to improve security at the waterfront market in a bid to ensure safety and security of both market goers and market vendors.

Among the issues tackled during the meeting were the regulation on the 5 entry/exit points at the market, the need for additional roving COMPAC personnel as well as the need for close coordination between market supervisors and uniformed personnel and market stall associations so that monitoring  of respective areas along with strict implementation of the market code can be enforced.

Go said it is also very important that market vendors are properly identified to ensure law and order inside the facility, which is one of the city’s market enterprises.

Per directive of Mayor Beng Climaco, police authorities from Police Station 11 the other day arrested within 24 hours, the suspect in the June 14 shooting incident inside the market.

Police authorities initially suspect personal grudge as the motive of the incident. (Sheila Covarrubias)
