Gov’t forces rescue 2 kidnap victims in Sulu Print

Police and military authorities were able to safely rescue yesterday the two relatives of Talipao, Sulu Mayor 17 hours after they were abducted by suspected heavily armed terrorists belonging to the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

Police Chief Insp. Napoleon Lango disclosed that combined police and  military forces backed by members of the  Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT) safely rescued Edelyn Tulawie, the half- sister of Talipao Mayor Nezar Tulawie and her mother, Addang Tulawie at the hinterland area along the  boundary of Barangay Sinumaan and Kagay, Talipao, Sulu.

The mother and daughter were forcibly abducted by ASG bandits on Wednesday dawn while they were resting at their residence in Talipao.

“I was the one who personally led the rescue operations team composed of about 63 police personnel, and we safely recovered Edelyn and her mother Eddang at about 8 p.m. at the village of Sinumaan and Kagay in Talipao,” Chief Insp. Lango said.

The police official revealed that they received information from Mayor Tulawie about the kidnapping at 6 p.m. last Wednesday and that some residents of the village were able to see Edelyn and Eddang at their vicinity.

Wasting no time, the police and military troops immediately proceeded  to the village and scour the area leading to the recovery of the two victims, said the police chief of Talipao.

According to Lango, they immediately secure the safety of the victims and brought them to the residence of  former Talipao Mayor Tamrin Tulawie.

It can be recalled that based on the military report reaching this city it was about 2:20 a.m. of Wednesday when armed men barged into the Tulawie’s residence located at the boundary of Barangay  Kandaga and Kuhaw in Talipao where they abducted Edelyn and Addang.

The Abu Sayyaf gunmen immediately withdrew towards  the village of Kamuntayan,Talipao as reported by some members of the household who witnessed the abduction.

Police and military authorities immediately launched hot pursuit operations against the suspects, Joint Task Force-Sulu (JTF-Sulu) said.

Members of the Talipao Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT) also joined in the search and rescue operations in coordination with  the 501st Brigade in the area.(Ely Dumaboc)
