Activities for the 7th Dia de Fundacion de Chavacano, an activity that seeks to preserve and promote the Spanish derivative language, will kick off 9 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga with Mayor Beng Climaco leading the program.

To be launched will be a chavacano dictionary split into two volumes, with first volume covering A-M and the second volume taking up N-Z. The dictionary was produced by Assistant City Administrator Dr. Genaro Yap-Aizon and team and came in the heels of the chavacano ortography, a comprehensive reference material for Chavacano spelling and grammar produced by the local government.

On the other hand, the chavacano quiz bee is now on its second year and will be participated by elementary, Junior and senior high school students.

The program will be held at the KCC activity area on the second floor starting at 9am to 3pm and will be participated by different sectors in the city.

The observance of Dia de Fundacion Chavacano started 7 years ago when Ordinance 374 declaring every June 23rd of the year as Dia de Fundacion de Chavacano was enacted. The ordinance seeks promote, preserve and propagate Chavacano, a Spanish derivative language which traces its beginnings back to June 23, 1635 when the cornerstone of the Fuerza de San Jose, now more popularly known as Fort Pilar, was laid down.
