The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) has suggested the privatization of garbage collection in the barangay level to help in the city’s cleanliness efforts.

Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, OCENR information officer, said that with the privatization, the barangay will now take care of their respective garbage.

"It's time on the barangay level, sila mira el collection de basura," Pagotaisidro said.

Pagotaisidro further explained that there will be no problem on funding since the Solid Waste Management Ordinance gives the authority to barangays to collect a P50 monthly fee per family for garbage collection.

Should this take place, the OCENR can then focus on waste management for business establishments, schools and the central business district, according to Pagotaisidro.

Garbage collection is reported to be privatized in the barangays of Boalan and Putik.

The office only has 20 garbage trucks tasked to collect the city's garbage. (R.G. A A. Go)
