Nearly a thousand barangay captains and kagawads showed up at the Tetuan Coliseum yesterday afternoon for formal oath taking ceremonies presided in by Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry L. Roque attended the ceremony as guest of honor and speaker.

Of the 98 barangay captains, 97 showed up to take their oath before Salazar.

Taluksangay Barangay Chairperson Hannah Nuño together with the other officials of her barangay were a no-show.

In an interview, Nuño said that she already took her oath before former councilor, Atty. Melchor “Mel” Sadain.

Of the 97 barangay captains who attended, at least 92 have already taken their oath before President Rodrigo Duterte during the latter’s visit in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur last Tuesday.

Six barangay captains took their oath before First District Congressman Celso Lobregat.

Meanwhile, the mayor urged barangay officials to follow the directives of President Duterte on peace and security.

Roque, for his part, asked the participants to remember their responsiblities as barangay officials.

"Kasama ng pribilehiyo, kasama ng distinction, kasama ang karangalan ng inyong opisina ay napakalaking responsibilidad," Roque reminded.  (R.G Antonet Go)
