A Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) official said that it will pay P175-million owed to the Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) before the deadline given by the power supplier for the payment of the former’s alleged P301-million debt.

Engr. Edgardo Ancheta, Zamcelco General Manager, said that Zamcelco intends to pay P175-million in two installments before the deadline on Thursday, July 5.

WMPC threatened to curtail electric supply to Zamcelco from 50 megawatts to only 20 megawatts if Zamcelco fails to pay its obligation.

The curtailment is likely to result to long power outages in the city of Zamboanga.

Ancheta said that should WMPC refuse to accept their partial payment, the electric cooperative has plans to ask for additional power from San Miguel Power.

San Miguel Power is one of the electric cooperative’s power suppliers, providing the electric cooperative with 35 megawatts.

Ancheta said that Zamcelco owes WMPC the amount of P258-million consisting of balances of P103-million for the month of March and P155-million for the month of April.

Based on WMPC’s computation however, Zamcelco owes the power supplier the amount of P301,791,767.57.

Zamcelco’s March remaining payment balance is P103,068, 121.64 due on July 5, 2018 and the April billing of P155,019,687.63 is due on July 24, 2018.  (RGAAGo)
