There will be no power curtailment by the Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) that would have gone into effect today after the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) promised to pay part of its outstanding obligation.

In a letter to Engineer Edgar Sevilles, Vice-President and Business Manager for Diesel Operation of Alsons Power Group, Zamcelco General Manager Edgardo Ancheta said that the electric cooperative will pay P75-million by today and another P100-million two weeks from today.

Zamcelco owes WMPC more than P300-million in arrears.

WMPC said that it could no longer advance the payment for fuel to run its plant in Sangali.

Ancheta said,“Zamcelco acknowledges its accounts due to all its power suppliers and it is committed to fulfill those obligations.”

Because of the promise to pay up today, WMPC will hold its power curtailment scheduled to start today but the other deadline set on July 24 for the payment of the balance for last month’s billing “still stands.”

Engineer Ancheta added, “ Just allow the coop (Zamcelco) time because we in Zamcelco are doing our best to fulfill all our obligations.”  (BJ)
