Culianan Police Station personnel confirmed that the reported explosion in Culianan National High School last Wednesday morning was caused by empty spray canisters and not explosives.

A post blast investigation was conducted by policemen and bomb experts who later found out that there were no explosives on the scene of the blast.

Investigation showed that at around 9:38 a.m. learners set on fire a pile of garbage which included empty spray canisters.

Because of the presence of liquid chemical inside the empty spray canisters and due to the heat, the empty spray canisters exploded.

The explosion caused alarm inside the school campus and set off numerous speculations.

After the post blast investigation, policemen said that classes on all levels returned to normal.  No learners were hurt in the incident.   (Dan Toribio)
