The Land Transportation Office (LTO-9) has released 1,212 new motor vehicle plates for region 9 vehicle owners during a short ceremony yesterday at the LTO office at the Zamboanga Ecozone.

Atty. Aminola Abaton, LTO-9 Regional Director, said that the new vehicle plates are among thousands released nationwide.

The plates were ceremonially turned over to the different car dealers.

LTO-9 also posted in their website the names of the vehicle owners whose plates are now available.  Vehicle owners whose plates were released can get these from the LTO-9 Ecozone office or through their car dealers.

The new vehicle plates cover the July 2016 backlog.

The new plate numbers start with the letter “J” representing the prefix for region 9.  This will be followed by two other letters and four numbers.

The new plates are German-made but printed by the LTO office in Manila.  It has Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), a device which stores the vehicle’s data.

Abaton said that the LTO-9 office still faces a backlog of about 25,000 vehicle plates.

Abaton said that the LTO is targeting to provide license plates for all four-wheeled vehicles before the year ends.  (RGAAGo)
