The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a seminar and workshop on the formulation of barangay disaster plans yesterday at the Grand Astoria Hotel.

The activity, held in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), also aims to educate barangay officials and personnel on proper budgeting and utilization of barangay funds for disaster preparedness and prevention.

CDRRMO Officer Elmier Apolinario underscored the importance of creating a disaster plan in the barangay level to prepare for natural and man-made calamities and disasters.

This includes the efficient utilization of barangay funds for the purpose.  Funds intended for disaster preparation compose 5% of the annual budget of barangays.

Apolinario said that a monitoring mechanism will be put in place to ensure that barangay officials adhere to what was taught during the seminar.

The seminar held last July 5 and 6 was organized for the first batch of participants from the barangays.

Two more batches will be undergoing their respective seminars from July 10 to 11 and from July 12 to 13 this year.  (OJT)
