Mayor Beng Climaco has directed the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) to thoroughly investigate the murder of barangay kagawad Michael Magallanes Saturday morning on Sta. Catalina.

Immediately after receiving the report about the shooting incident, the mayor tasked ZCPO OIC Director PSSupt. Alan Nazarro to establish the initial cause of the incident as she called on those who are aware of the real situation to help shed light into the incident.

“We express sympathy to the bereaved family and ask everyone’s cooperation to bring justice to the killing of Barangay Kagawad Magallanes,” the mayor said.

Magallanes is a newly-elected kagawad of Sta. Catalina and assumed the post last June 30. He was shot by unidentified gunmen while on board his XRM motorcycle around 7:20 am July 7 at Betty II, Sta. Catalina, a few meters away from his residence. He sustained various gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body. Two hours later, he was pronounced dead by attending physicians at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Mayor Climaco instructed the police to continuously remain on alert and to further tighten security measures in light of challenges.  (Sheila Covarrubias/PR)
