District 1 Congressman Celso L. Lobregat announced that he has considered the importance of education to the young leaders of Zamboanga City, particularly those who were newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials of the 98 barangays of the city.

Lobregat has coordinated with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)/State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to include in his recommendation the SK officials, either SK Chairman or SK Kagawads to become recipient of the Tulong Dunong Program educational assistance for school year 2018-2019.

The solon said that since the SK officials will be serving their fellow youths in the city, it is just proper to also give them due education benefits like giving them an opportunity to fulfill their studies and continue to become leaders of their respective communities.

This was one the of the issues discussed by Congressman Lobregat to CHED officials and the scholarship coordinators of Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC) Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) and Southern City Colleges (SCC) to validate the list of remaining Tulong Dunong beneficiaries.

Other SK officials who are now enrolled in other private schools is also being considered by Lobregat to be able to avail of such educational assistance, like those enrolled in STI College, Universidad de Zamboanga and other private schools in the city.

All those incumbent SK officials who are enrolled in tertiary level will just have to coordinate with the office of Congressman Lobregat to secure recommendation and the availability of slots intended for their studies.

“We always say that the youth is the hope of our nation, so we must equip them with proper education as early as now for them to become responsible citizens and future leaders,” Lobregat said.

The educational assistance for SUCs is Php 6,000 per year or Php 3,000 per semester. The educational assistance for private school is Php 12,000 per year or Php 6,000 per semester paid directly by CHED to the private schools for tuition and miscellaneous fees. (Dexter Yap)
