The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the production of four- wheel motor vehicle  special plates such as  personalized plate numbers and plates with triple numbers.

LTO-9 Assistant Regional Director Manuel L. Betaizar disclosed that LTO is prioritizing the production of ordinary license plates so that the backlog problem will be resolved.

This despite big earnings generated by the LTO for special license plates.

The LTO is reportedly earning up to P25,000 per personalized license plate.

Betaizar said that the personalized plates are usually ordered by well-to-do people because of the price. The owners usually base the numbers on their birthdates or other lucky numbers.

Meanwhile, Betaizar reported that 1,212 plate numbers were issued by LTO-9 last July 5 at  the Zamboanga Ecozone for Zamboanga Peninsula.

The distribution was done simultaneously nationwide. (Allen Abastillas)
