Zamboanga City Police Director Sr Supt. Allan Nazarro has called an emergency meeting to respond to the series of shooting incidents in the city.

The latest victim is Sapa Sapa Municipality Vice-Mayor Hadji Alrasid Mohammad Alih who was gunned down at a busy intersection during rush hours last Wednesday.

As of presstime yesterday, Nazarro said that the police is contemplating to create a task force to investigate the Vice-Mayor’s murder.  The proposal has to be approved by Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran.

Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by all station commanders and Zamboanga City Council Committee on Peace and Order Chairperson Josephine Pareja.

In an interview, Nazarro said that they are reviewing the city’s security plan together with the latest crime statistics to look for loopholes in the security situation.

The police intends to come up with new strategies to respond to the latest security crisis.

Vice-Mayor Alih is the seventh victim of shooting in the city in less than a week.

He is also the second government official to be gunned down.  The first is Sta. Catalina Kagawad Michael Magallanes who was shot dead.

Five others were either wounded or killed in succeeding gun attacks.

Nazarro said that they are also contemplating to ban the use of full-faced helmets subject to provisions mandated in the national law.  (Remus Ong)
