A man suspected of participating in the 2017 massacre of eight fishermen In Siromon Island was arrested during law enforcement operations in Niyog-Niyog, Barangay Muti, east of this city last Sunday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the suspect as Nanir Bandahala.

Bandala was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for charges of multiple attempted murder issued by the Zamboanga Regional Trial Court.

Police confiscated an MK2 hand grenade from the suspect.

Bandahala is also identified as a member of a criminal group headed by Jamiul Nasalon aka Jamir which is operating at Zamboanga City’s east coast.

The suspect is believed to have participated in several ambuscades and extortion activities against fishermen and small business operators in the area.

He is also believed to have taken part in the 2017  massacre of eight fishernmen in the waters off Siromon Island in Barangay Dita and one of the perpetrators in a bus strafing incident at Kilometer 8 that same year.  (Ely Dumaboc)
