The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has already auctioned 12,898 sacks of rice last Tuesday at their office in the port area.

Atty. Lyceo C. Martinez, District Customs Collector, said that the winning bidder was the Maya Irrigators Association.

The winning bidder bidded P18,150,000. Of the said amount, P12,705,000 will be for the revenue of the BOC Zamboanga.

Martinez said the 12,898 sacks of rice came from MV Diamond.

The winning bidder will now be getting the confiscated rice from the warehouse in the Philippine Navy headquarters in Lower Calarian.

Meanwhile, Martinez said the auction of seized goods like rice is one of the reasons why the BOC office here was able to meet its target collection. He added that another strategy he is implementing is by personally conferring with the traders of Zamboanga City and the entire region.

As of July 19, the office already hit their target collection by collecting P29,952,145.00 and in fact surpassed their target of P24,000,000.00 (R.G. A A. Go)
