Hundreds of structures, including a mosque and a house owned by a barangay kagawad, were razed during a conflagration in Barangay Labuan yesterday afternoon.

Elmier Apolinario, Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (CDRRMO), said that around 400 structures were razed, based on initial CDRRMO reports.

ZCDRRMO reports said that the fire started at around 1 p.m. in Purok 5, Calle Balimbing at the house of a certain Marco Tarhata.

Members of the Tarhata family were cooking when the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) container suddenly exploded, starting the fire.

Among the structures razed are the house of a barangay kagawad and a mosque.

Victims said that most of them failed to save their valuables because they hurriedly escaped from their burning houses.

As of press time, Barangay Chairman Ronald Maravilla led the barangay council in assisting the affected families.  (Dan Toribio)
