Former Congressman Erbie A. Fabian said yesterday that the sudden change in the speakership of the House of Representatives is just but natural and “is all about politics” as he also stressed that former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and the new Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo are both qualified and competent leaders.

“Having been in the House of Representatives for a long time all I can say is that the sudden change in leadershipof Congress is all about politics. It’s a number game,” Fabian told DZT in an interview.

Nevertheless, the former three-termer Zamboanga solon stressed that it is his hope that the new leadership of the Lower House will be able to fast track the passage of vital and significant legislations that would redound to the benefit and welfare of the Filipino people. And more so, to expedite the several legislative measures certified urgent by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

“I hope that the thinking in the new leadership of Congress shall complement the legislative agenda of President Duterte especially those programs and projects that are geared towards peace and development in the Mindanao region,” Fabian stressed.

The former mayor and congressman also added that he is confident that Speaker Macapaga-Arroyo can be very effective in the House of Representatives since she has vast experiences both in legislative and executive branches of government.

It can be recalled that Fabian was serving his first and second term as Zamboanga City congressman during the presidency of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Just last month, Fabian also announced his decision to go back to the local political arena saying that he will try his luck again by running for the seat in the Second Congressional District of Zamboanga City.
