Two fishing boats carrying an estimated P1.2-million worth of fish caught in the waters off Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugaywere apprehended by authorities last Monday.

Tungawan Municipal Police personnel together with the town’s BantayDagat  apprehended the two fishing boats for alleged illegal fishing activities off the coast of Barangay Looc.

Police identified the first boat as the F/B Nur.  The vessel has twenty (20) crew members who are all residents of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Police said that the boat was loaded with fishing paraphernalia, and fish estimated to cost P600,000.

The second boat was identified as the F/B Irene.  The boat has fifteen (15) crew members on board.

The boat was also loaded with fishing paraphernalia and P600,000 worth of catch.

Later that day, the owners of the two boats paid fines corresponding to P20,000 for the F/B Nur and P15,000 for the F/B Irene.

The boats together with their crew were released from police custody.  (Dan Toribio)
