Around 50 temporary houses occupied by fire victims were burned during a conflagration at a transitory site yesterday afternoon.

President Rodrigo Duterte was set to arrive in Zamboanga City to distribute relief goods to another batch of individuals victimized by a fire in Barangay Labuan when the fire occurred at the transitory site.

As of presstime, reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection-9 (BFP-9), said that some forty (40) to fifty (50) structures located at the Kasanyangan Transitory Site in Asinan have been burned in the blaze.

The fire, which started at 4 p.m., was still raging as of presstime, a situation that might result to an increase in the number of houses affected.

Priscilla Alejandro, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) employee, said that the Kasanyangan transitory site serves as temporary home to more than 80 families left homeless by conflagrations at the Magay Public Market, in Kasalamatan and the 2013 Zamboanga conflict.

Residents said that firefighters had difficulty in reaching the affected areas because of the lack of roads at the transitory site.

Investigators are  trying to determine the cause of the blaze while social welfare workers are  in the process of accounting for the affected families as of presstime.

This is the second time this week that a big conflagration razed hundreds of houses in the city.

Last Sunday, at least 400 houses were razed during a conflagration in Barangay Labuan.
