Duterte assures fire victims of new homes Print

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited Zamboanga City on Thursday and distributed financial assistance amounting to P15,000 each to 403 families displaced by fire in Labuan, west of this city.

Aside from the financial assistance, Presisedent  Duterte also assured the fire victims that he will give them new homes and relocation site for as long as the lot is available.

He instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) to coordinate with the barangay and city government in finding a lot where to relocate the fire victims, not only from Labuan but other places in the city.

The cash assistance given to Labuan fire victims included P5,000 from the DSWD, P1,500 from PAGCOR, P1,500 from PCSO and P7,000 from Pres. Duterte himself for a total of P15,000 each family.

Recalled, a fire broke out Sunday afternoon on the coastline of Labuan and totally razed 358 houses, 13 partially damaged. At least 403 families with 1,987 individuals were affected, 371 of them were house owners and 32 sharers.

On Thursday afternoon, another fire hit the city, this time at the transitory site in Kasanyangan. About 60 houses were reportedly destroyed.

The incident occurred hours before Pres. Duterte flew in from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province.

It was learned that fire victims in Kasanyangan village will receive financial assistance and relocation site similar to those of Labuan fire victims.-(Vic Larato)
