The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) has strongly condemned a car bomb explosion in Lamitan City, Tuesday morning that killed 11 people and wounded seven others.

MNLF Chairman Yusop Jikiri described the attack as   “uncalled for and un-Islamic.”

Jikiri also said that the ASG car bomb attack was a “dastardly act to kill, maim, and injure innocent civilians of Lamitan City.”

The ASG detonated  a car bomb at a joint military and Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) detachment located in the village of Bulanting bordering Colonia in  Lamitan City  at about 5:50 a.m. last Tuesday.

Jikiri said that he does not discount the possibility that the driver of the  van was a foreigner, as his group also received similar reports from MNLF forces in Basilan that a foreigner was going to launch an attack.

According to reports, the van had  come from  the town of Mohammad Ajul in Basilan province, a known haven of the Abu Sayyaf group.  (Ely Dumaboc)
