Soldiers recover arms in encounter with ASG Print

Government troops engaged in a firefight with members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Barangay Angilan, Omar Municipality in Sulu Province last Thursday.

No casualties were reported on the government side.

Troops were able to recover an M16A1 and a short magazine with 19 rounds of ammunition.

Troops involved in the gun battle were members of the 6th Special Forces Company, 2nd Special Forces Battalion under Joint Task Force Sulu.

Lt. Gen. Arnel B. Dela Vega, Western Mindanao commander, said that government troops are at an advantage since they are being helped by the Sulu provincial government unit, the Moro National Liberation Front and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and traditional leaders in battling the Abu Sayyaf.  (Ely Dumaboc)
