A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and a known follower of ASG Leader Puruji Indama surrendered to the Joint Task Force Basilan Thursday, August 09 after being apparently tired of military pressure on the terrorist group.

Col. Fernando Reyeg, commander of the 104th Army Brigade in Basilan, said Ridwan Marwan surrendered to troops of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion in Tuburan Proper, Hadji Mohammad Adjul Town.

Marwan also surrendered his M-16 rifle with 4 magazines.

Lt. General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief, lauded Marwan's surrender and expressed hope that more Abu Sayyaf members would follow suit.

"The recent surrender only manifests that the pressure employed by the military and the coordination made by the Joint Task Force Basilan with the local government and the people of Basilan have compelled the Abu Sayyaf bandits to surrender to  government forces," Dela Vega said.

Meanwhile, Nur-in Sali, Social Welfare and Development Officer of Hadji Mohammad Adjul Municipality, said that as of today almost a thousand families have already been displaced in four barangays due to the on going law enforcement operation following the Lamitan City blast last July 31.(Richard Falcatan)
