The reported scarcity of commercial rice triggered panic among consumers who were spotted queuing to buy the cheaper but  limited supply of National Food Authority (NFA) rice in a number of stalls in the city’s public markets.

Consumers said that they are availing of the cheaper NFA rice to suit their meager budget.

“Sana gagawa ng paraan ang local government natin para tulungan kami mga maralita dahil ang sweldo namin ay tama lang para sa pang araw-araw,” said a consumer who requested anonymity.

A number of market stalls selling rice were even closed due to the shortage.

A stall owner said that they only open their stalls if there is available NFA rice supply.  (Remus Ong)
