LOOKING IN

BY ROD BALBON

It’s not how you start but how you finished doing something in life. These were the words expressed by Dr. Robert Lee during the investiture ceremony held in his honor at the Rigodon Ballroom, Palmeras Restaurant last August 14, 2018. He was bestowed the prestigious degree of Honoris Causa in Business Administration by the Theology University of Cebu City.

A former market vendor early in life, he struggled and overcame poverty and hardships in life to become now a very successful and accomplished businessman. He was awarded the honorary degree in recognition of his contribution in giving relief to many people who are in their hours of need. His actions have greatly contributed to the welfare of the community and the city.

Now in the twilight of his years, Dr. Robert Lee has now found peace and solace with his renewed faith with the Almighty. A very religious man, his new-found faith has given him a new direction in answering the call of the many unprivileged and marginalized members of the community in fulfillment of the teachings of the Holy Book. And he did this with simplicity and without expecting any rewards.

Dr. Lee is a solid testament of someone who has done something worthy despite his advance age. He showed this by disproving the old adage that “life begins at forty”; that it’s never too late for someone to attain or achieve worthy  endeavours or goals even if one is already past the age of fifty, sixty or seventy years old. It is because life does not begin at forty but begins every morning.

Mornings don’t mean just getting up again but another day of hope—a chance given us by God for us to live life better than before, to mend broken relationships, to right the wrongs we’ve done, to help and make people happy, and a chance to love, choose and follow God’s will and savor His infinite love and grace.

My heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Robert Lee and may you live a hundred years more and pray to God Almighty to continue showering you with the blessings in all your undertakings. You started indeed shakily but you finished your goal with dignity, honor, and pride.

CONGRATULATIONS TOO : To Zamboanga City Polytechnic State College (ZCPSC) for the approval by the Senate on third and final reading the bill seeking to establish and convert the state college into a state university.

The bill for its conversion was sponsored by Senator Chiz Escudero, Chair Committee on Education, Arts and Culture.

A counterpart House Bill was sponsored by Zamboanga 1st District Congressman Celso Lobregat on December 11, 2017 which was transmitted to the Senate on December 12, 2017 and approved only last Tuesday, August 14, 2018.

This marks another milestone in the life of the school that serves and provides quality technical education not only for poor students of Zamboanga City but also from the nearby provinces as well.

School President, Nelson Cabral, is extremely happy knowing that the conversion of the school to a university has finally been realized after long years of waiting. He thanks Senator Chiz Escudero and Congressman Celso Lobregat for sponsoring the bill for its conversion.

BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETINGS to my niece Dr. Janina Kristina “Dimple” Balbon who celebrated her birthday last August 14 and also to his son Jameson last August 16.

May you be continually blessed with good health, love, peace of mind, and prosperity.
