Zambo athletes prepare for 2018 Batang Pinoy PDF Print E-mail

The Zamboanga City delegation is now set to compete in the 2018 National Batang Pinoy competition to be conducted from September 15 to 21 in Baguio City.

The delegation includes athletes, coaches, and city officials.

Cecilia C. Atilano, city sports development officer, said that the athletes are grade school and high school students aged 17 years old and below who have competed and won in the Batang Pinoy Mindanao leg held last February in Oroquieta City.

Athletes in sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, muay thai and wushu which have only a few participants will go directly to the national games.

Athletes will compete in the following: Archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball 3 on 3, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, rugby football,  sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.

Zamboanga City placed fourth during the National Batang Pinoy competition held in Tagum Davao City last year.

Most of the athletes learned their sport during the Summer Learn to Play program of the city government.

“We are monitoring their progress and training (referring to the athletes). To the coaches care for the health of their athletes kasi unpredictable yung weather,” Atilano said.

Aside from this, Atilano is also reminding the athletes to continue their training, concentrate on what they need to do, listen to their trainers and coaches. (RGAAGo)
