The City Health Office (CHO) has celebrated the culmination of Family Planning Month Thursday morning at the City Health Office.

This year’s theme was anchored on “Pamilyang Planado, Panalo! #FamilyPlanningTryMo”. The theme promotes the use of modern Family Planning methods to achieve the desired number of children that couples can afford to raise.

Family Planning Month is being observed annually in August, where the celebration aims to increase the public’s access to Family Planning services and to promote awareness about the programs of the government in family planning and the actions parents can take if they want to plan for the number and spacing of their children.

The City Health Office gives lectures to mothers and those interested on family planning.

The CHO also features and provides lectures on family planning methods such as condoms, pills, intrauterine device, Depo injectable, and others.

The ceremonial removal and insertion of Progestin Subdermal Implant was also held.

Dr. Myra Aranan of the City Health Office said that 160 women tried the bilateral tubal ligation from January to June 2018.

There were also women who availed of other family planning methods consisting of the following:  Pills, 1,349; Intra Uterine Device, 79; Depo Injectable, 1,277; Condom, 103; and Progestin Subdermal Implant, 121.

There are eight medical officers, 15 nurses, and six midwives trained on how to do the Progestin Subdermal Implant which is valid for three years.

Available family planning methods at the city health and health centers are Bilateral Tubal Ligation, Pills, Intra Uterine Device, Depo Injectable, Condom, Progestin Subdermal Implant, standard days method, lactational amenorrhea method, and non scalpel vasectomy. (RGAAGo)
