Two policemen were killed in an alleged shootout with elite personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Counter Intelligence Task Force-Camp Crame (CITF) yesterday afternoon in Barangay Ayala, west of this city.

According to the city police, the slain cops were identified as PO2 Maria Oliver Olaso and PO3 Ronald Bernardo, both assigned in the Ayala Police Station.

Initial police investigation showed that the Counter Intelligence Task Force-Camp Crame has coordinated with the local police for a conduct of a special operation in Ayala. However, details of the said special operation cannot be disclosed to the media as of this press report.

Police report revealed that shortly before 3 p.m. yesterday residents in Ayala heard successive gunshots coming from the vicinity of the residential house owned by a former Ayala barangay official.

Few moments later, residents saw the two cops, Olaso and Bernardo lying in a pool of blood and visibly dead after sustaining gunshot wounds in the different parts of their bodies.

Police also reported that the undercover cops of the CITF-Camp Crame were able to recover two sachets of suspected shabu from the possession of the two slain policemen.

Initial report revealed that Olaso and Bernardo allegedly resisted arrest resulting to the bloody shootout.

The Counter Intelligence Task Force was formed by the PNP top brass on order of President Rodrigo Duterte to monitor and run after scalawag policemen and soldiers who are engaged in criminal activities like drugs, extortion and kidnapping.

In fact, the CITF has already neutralized a considerable number of scalawag cops and soldiers in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other big cities of the country. --Dan Toribio
