The Muslim communities of the city are now in the midst of preparations for the annual “Eidil Adha” celebration, a world-wide Islamic Feast, culminating the Hajj rituals in the Holy City of Mecca.

Ustadz Wahid Amil, a ranking member of the DarulIfta and spokesperson of the Grand Mufti of the city and Palawan, informed Prof. Ali T. Yacub,Al-Hj., president of the Golden Crescent Consortium of Peace Builders and Affiliated (GCCPBA) thru text message that the Eidil-Adha prayers nationwide will fall this year on August 21, 2018/10 Dhul-Hijjah 1439 A.H.

“The relayed information was intended for widest dissemination to the Muslim faithful of the city and neighboring provinces and island barangays,” Prof Yacub said.

The Eidil-Adha commemorative prayers and ceremonies are in remembrance of Prophet Abraham’s (patriarch of the three Abrahamic Faiths that is, Judaism, Christianity and Islam), great sacrifice of fulfilling God’s command to sacrifice His son, according to Islamic narrative.

The local celebration and other parts of the world outside Mecca, celebrate also the culmination of the Hajj rituals and all pilgrims who are now in the Holy City of Mecca will have completed the requirements of the Hajj on the9th of Dhul-Hijjah which is called the “UqufArafa (Arafa Day)”, requiring all the pilgrims coming all parts of the world to simultaneously be present in Arafa on the 9th of the Hajj month before they can be declared as “Hajjis”, with its literal meaning, a “full-filled pilgrim” Prof. Yacub said.

The pilgrims after “Arafa Day” will stay for three days vigil in the plain of Mina to commemorate Abraham’s sacrifice and the devil’s temptation before the great sacrifice on Abraham and his family, so said the Islamic narrative.

The three-day vigil is the performance of “pelting” of the stone-pillars, representing the three temptations on Abraham and his family.

“After Mina, some pilgrims will proceed to the city of Medina to visit the Prophet of Islam’s Tomb before returning to their home-country,” Prof Yacub said.

In a related development, some interfaith activities will be spearheaded by peace-loving Zamboangueños (Muslims and Christians) in line with the Eidil-Adha Celebration.

The activities are: On August 22 (Tuesday) Eidil-Adha Solidarity Dinner Celebration to be hosted by the Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP) and Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and on August 24 (Friday) an Open-House/Brigada Madrasa to be held in Barangay Curuan, this will be spearheaded by the Technical Working Group on Countering Violent Extremism (TWG-CVET) and Ulama Council for Zamboanga Peninsula (UCZP).
