The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has registered an increase in business name registration in Zamboanga city for 2018.

Garry S.J. Micubo, Business Name Processor DTI Zamboanga City, said that the office registered 5,405 businesses from January to July this year.

For 2017, DTI registered a total of 3,374 businesses.

“Uno rason poreso yan increase por causa del intensive business campaign de DTI Negosyo Centers y intensive campaign de LGU tan require gayot sila man register el business name na DTI,” Micubo said.

According to Micubo, businesses being registered belong to retailing, followed by food business, and services.

Retailing businesses include convenience store and sari sari stores.

Food businesses include carinderia, restaurants, and others, while the service industy includes laundry, water refilling stations and others in the same line.

Small and big businesses alike are required to register with the DTI.

The local government has made it a policy not to issue business permits without DTI business name registration.

Business owners who register their businesses have more advantages than those who do not.

These include name recall and assistance from the DTI.

Interested business owners who wish to register their businesses must fill up the required form and choose whether they want to register with  the Barangay, City, Region of National level.

Applicants receive their business names certificates within minutes, according to Micubo.

Business owners who do not register their businesses with the DTI face penalties ranging from P1,000 to P10,000 for violating RA 3883 otherwise known as the Business Name Law.  (RGAAGo)
