The Police and the Philippine Coast Guard have intensified its campaign against terrorism.

Police Regional Office-9 Regional Director, Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, said that regional police personnel have intensified their watch against explosives experts.

“We now have a regionwide campaign.  Naghahanap tayong mga UNFO.

Naghahanap tayo ng mga fertilizer that they convert into Improvised Explosive Device (IED),” Beltran said.

Beltran appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities in its efforts saying that threats are always present.

For their part, Zamboanga Station Commander Lieutenant Commander Noriel Ramos said that they are increasing their conduct of security patrols along the different coastal barangays of Zamboanga City.

This is to strictly monitor the entry of suspicious persons as well as commodities used as a precursor in making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) or bombs.

"We cannot let our guard down,in fact, since the terror threat in the city prevails, we are here to support the security initiatives of our local counterparts in the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Task Force Zamboanga," (TFZ) Ramos said.

The official said that aside from the law enforcement operations and rescue missions at the high seas, his command is also occupied in ensuring the safety of civilians on board the local ferries and the point of entry in the city which is the local port.

Meanwhile, Beltran said that they have intensified the campaign against terrorism following a terrorist attack in Lamitan City last July 31.

The attack killed eleven people, including the suspect who was initially identified as a suicide bomber.  (Ely Dumaboc)
