The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is expected to start their Mindanao Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP) to link the Visayas and Mindanao grids soon.

The project is expected to result to a more stable power supply by linking MIndanao to Visayas and Luzon.

Arnold Claudio, NGCP Construction projects manager - MVIP (Visayas Side) explained  that under the program Mindanao will be linked through a 92-kilometer submarine cable to Visayas.

The P50- billion NGCP project will start early next year and is expected to be completed by December 2020. This will cover Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte, and Cebu in Visayas.

However, he said, the magnitude of work is long and complex. It is also expected that they will be conducting local hiring of technical personnel.

According to Claudio, they are now in the pre- construction stage which includes checking on the road right of way, procurement activity, and engaging with the local government unit where the project will traverse. (RGAAGo)
