Unidentified motorcycle-riding men robbed and mauled a Roman Catholic priest in broad daylight along the highway of Barangay Menzi in Isabela City Basilan Province last Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the victim as Rev. Fr. Euclid Dueñas Balosbalos, 45 years old and a priest at the Sta. Isabel Cathedral Parish in Isabela City.

The clergy was driving his motorcycle along the Menzi-Cabunbata Highway at 10:30 p.m. when he was tailed  by motorcycle-riding suspects.

The suspects sidled up to the victim’s motorcycle, hit him on the face and forcibly took his slingbag containing his cellular phone, driver’s license and P200 cash.

The suspects then escaped towards an unknown direction after the incident.

The priest was brought and admitted to a local hospital for medication. (Dan Toribio)
