Six killed in Sirawai abduction Print

Six persons were killed while a minor was wounded during a shootout with armed men who abducted a retired militiaman and his wife in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte last Friday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 Information Officer, identified the victims as 62-year-old Rufo C. Roda, a retired militiaman and his wife Helen Roda, 64 years old

Galvez said that the suspects arrived on  a motorized pump boat at Barangay Piacan, Sirawai on Friday evening.

CAFGU (Civlian Armed Forces Geographical Unit) personnel stationed at the Piacan detachment engaged the lawless group in a firefight after monitoring their arrival.

A militiaman, identified as Amsid Maugag Callun, was killed during the firefight.

Five civilians, meanwhile, were also killed during the exchange of gunfire.  They were identified as Absar Julkanain Gumba, Kabiran Saliuddin Ginsing, Saddam Baitulla Tahir, Jaayri Bairulla Lumihig and Muslimin Adan.

A minor, Jering Carbi was wounded.

Meanwhile, Rufo and his wife Helen were reportedly used as human shields by the suspects in their escape.

The group together with their victims withdrew towards the seas off Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Police have conducted hot pursuit operations against the suspects.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga Coast Guard Station have deployed. personnel from their special operations unit aboard two vessels to help in the ongoing pursuit operations in Sirawai.  (Ely Dumaboc)
