PCG Zamboanga joins pursuit on Sirawai abductors PDF Print E-mail

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Zamboanga Station has extended seaborne patrol assistance to Zamboanga del Norte authorities in their search for kidnapped victims from Barangay Piacan, Sirawai.

PCG Zamboanga Station Chief Lieutenant Commander Noriel Ramos said that he  deployed his Special Operations Unit on board (2) Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB) to help in the ongoing pursuit operation against the perpetrators of the said abduction incident.

“We immediately provided seaborne support to our engaged troops from the Philippine Army and the PNP in order to pursue the perpetrators who were responsible in abducting the old couple, who were also used as human shields,” Ramos said.

Recall that an armed encounter incident occurred at Brgy Piacan, Sirawai Zamboanga Del Norte in the eve of September 1, wherein five (5) unidentified armed men wearing camouflage uniforms on board a motorized pump boat arrived at said place and were monitored by the AFP troops of Piacan detachment that resulted to an armed encounter.

In the course of the firefight, one (1) CAFGU and five (5) civilians were killed.

Evading armed subjects forcibly took the couple, identified as Rufo C. Roda, 62 yrs old, a retired CAFGU and his wife identified as Helen M. Roda, 64 yrs old from their residence in the said barangay.

The lawless group also used the couple as human shields to evade pursuing troops.

The subject group together with the couple withdrew towards the high seas of Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte using the same boat.

At present, hot pursuit operation against said lawless elements is still ongoing to possibly locate the whereabouts of the suspects.  – (PCG ZAMBOANGA)
