Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Zamboanga Station augmented its efforts in checking on the local fingerwharfs here in the city forming part of their intensified security measures.

PCG Zamboanga Station chief Liutenant Commander Noriel Ramos said that together with the local police and military units here, they are conducting random security checks on inter-island vessels, individuals and cargoes which enters the city thru the fingerwharfs.

"Marami kasi tayong point of entries dito sa Zamboanga, isa na yang mga fingerwharf, kayat tailangan nating i-monitor lahat ng pumapasok dyan para maiwasan ang posibleng banta sa seguridad,"Ramos said.

The official said that they have also adopted covert deployment strategies together with other friendly forces to monitor those suspicious individuals entering the fingerwharfs.

"We have more than a hundred fingerwharfs all over Zamboanga City, mahirap subaybayan yan ng isahan lang,kayat nagkaisa kami ng lahat ng otoridad dito para masiguro ang kaligtasan ng publiko," Ramos stressed.

No less than Mayor Beng Climaco has called on the police and military here to further strengthen their security measures to deter terror threats.

Aside from ensuring public safety in the local port, PCG Zamboanga has also maximized its anti-smuggling and human trafficking campaign together with the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Bureau of Immigration (BI), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).-(PR/PCG Zambo)
