A tip from an unidentified informant led to the apprehension of 2,100 sacks of rice aboard eighteen (18) trucks at the Baliwasan Seaside at dawn yesterday.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Moises Tamayo said that their office coordinated with the Zamboanga Coast Guard and the Maritime Police upon learning that the contraband was being unloaded by two vessels at the Zamboanga port.

Upon reaching the area, however, the vessels have already left, leaving a bongo van at the seaport.

NBI operatives asked the driver to open the van, revealing several sacks of rice inside.

“As of now, we put the seventeen vans at the Customs (office) for actual and parallel inventory inside the PPA warehouse pending their presentation of importation permit,” said Tamayo.  (Remus Ong)
