First District Congressman Celso Lobregat has recommended a more active distribution of rice due to a big demand from the city’s residents.

Lobregat made the statement after seeing the bulk of poor residents who went to the “Tagpuan Day,” a rice distribution program spearheaded by the National Food Authority (NFA).

Lobregat issued the recommendation after seeing the situation in barangays Sta. Maria and Tumaga where the rice allocation provided by the NFA was reportedly not enough for the residents who flocked to the area to avail of the NFA low-cost rice.

“Bien manada pa vivientes quiere man avail el barato arroz from NFA.  Since allocation per barangay is only 100 sacks good for only 1,000 families, daw falta pa gayot para contodo,”  Lobregat said.

Barangay Sta. Maria chairman Los Eli Angeles yesterday lauded NFA and the assistance of Congressman Lobregat in facilitating the conduct of rice distribution in his barangay, saying that this is of big help already to their poor residents amidst the high price of commercial rice in the local market.

Tumaga Barangay Chairwoman Jackie Lim also expressed her gratitude to the efforts of NFA and Lobregat for choosing their barangay as one of the recipients of the said program.

NFA is selling rice for about PhP27 per kilo wherein 100 sacks are being sold per barangay.

Each family is sold a  maximum of 5 kilos .  Around 1,000 families per barangay are trying to avail of the rice.

Congressman Lobregat has ensured the orderliness in the distribution of the rice supply to indigent families in District 1 in response to the rice shortage being experienced at present by the Zamboangueños.  (Dexter Yap)
