An NFA rice distribution in a west coast barangay nearly caused a stampede among hundreds of residents who went to the area to obtain their rice supply.

First District Congressman Celso Lobregat appealed for calm following the commotion among Sinunuc residents who trooped to the NFA distribution program “Tagpuan Day” last Saturday.

Hundreds of residents nearly figured in a stampede before lining up to get their rice.

Congressman Lobregat noticed the disorder and was reported to have immediately intervened to avoid further problems.

The solon sought the help of Sinunuc barangay tanods and police personnel to control the crowd and impose a “No stub, no Entry” policy.

The process of rice distribution became orderly with designated lanes for senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities and pregnant women.

“It was very stressful and disorganized.  Everybody wanted to go first so we have to put things in order before proceeding with the rice distribution,”  Lobregat explained.

Sinunuc Barangay Chairwoman Pilarica Ledesma thanked the NFA and Lobregat for prioritizing the poor residents of her barangay.  (Dexter Yap)
