The City Government of Zamboanga will spend P7.4-million for the upcoming Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

Christian Olasiman, City Hall Special Events Head, retains the chairmanship of the festival, which runs from September 3 to October 31.

The theme of this year’s festival is “I Love Zamboanga City.”

The main bulk of the budget, P4.9-million, will go to prizes for participants in the street dance competition and other competitions in line with the festival.

The breakdown of the budget will be as follows:  P454,000 for operating and maintenance expenses to include honoraria for judges, performers, plaques, and trophies, P280,000 for rent, P629,000 for advertising, P75,000 for other supplies which includes tables, frames and P1.069-million for food for participants and visitors.

“If your festival is beautiful, the people will go to you.  They will be spending in the city for hotel, food, transportation and other goods supporting the local economy,”  Olasiman explained.

Olasiman, Events Head, retained the chairmanship of the festival after a series of controversies which questioned the safekeeping of funds connected with the festival activities last year.

It will be recalled that Olasiman had figured in an investigation by the City Council following queries on  the accounting of funds from festival sponsors.

“When it comes to donations, it is an open book.  There are companies.. sila ta atraka even without us asking,”  Olasiman said.

For this year, partnerships are reportedly being done with sponsors where the latter spends the funds donated on their own.

Sponsors may also donate cash and cheques to the City Treasurer’s Office where the former will be issued an official receipt.

The amount donated will go to the trust fund of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival and will be used for expenses which cannot be funded by the city government, Olasiman explained. (RGAAGo)
