The Commission on Election (Comelec) Zamboanga City District Office is expecting an increase in voter’s registration from  436,254 to 460,000  for the 2019 local election.

Atty. Roy Cañete, Comelec District 1 Election Officer, said that the number of voters is expected to reach this figure by the end of registration period on September 29.

“Alto el voters turn-out.  Ta man expect kita, after el registration period, subi el numero del maga registered voters,” Comelec Zamboanga City District 1 Election Officer Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete said.

Based on Comelec records at present, District 1 voters number 226,064 while District 2 voters total 210,190.

District 1 covers 37 barangays while 61 barangays are under district 2.

Figures were based on the May 14 Barangay and SK elections.

Cañete said that a major reason for the increase in the number of voters is the Comelec’s acceptance of transferees for registration this year.

During the 2017 registration for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election, transferees were reportedly not accepted for registration by the Comelec district office.

Cañete also notes an increase in the number of youth voters who came to register.

Meanwhile, the newly registered voters will still have to pass the Election Registration Board (ERB) which will be conducted during the last week of October.

The  final list of voters will be released by mid November.

The ERB for District 1 is composed of Department of Education Schools Division Superintendent Felix Triambulo and Acting City Treasurer Romelita Candido and Atty. Cañete.

District 2 Election Registration Board members are Triambulo, City Civil Registrar Atty. Alexander Elias, and District 2 Election Officer Atty. Lerdo Matildo.

Comelec will  forward the documents to Comelec Manila so that the office can run the (AFIS) or the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to check on multiple registrants.

The office is now conducting satellite registration. On September 24 they will be at  the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), September 25 at Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC), and the final days of registration at KCC Mall de Zamboanga. (RGAAGo)
